A Conservative Take on Florida and U.S. Politics

I Was Wrong

with 4 comments

I was wrong.  I’ve ridiculed others for their past mistakes, so it’s only fair that I enjoy a dose of my own medicine.  I wasn’t just a little wrong, either;  it’s tough to find areas where I was right.   I thought four years was enough time to fix the economy.  The American people disagree.  I thought personal responsibility and hard work is an American virtue.  The American people want free stuff instead.  I thought negative campaigns and partisanship were ugly concepts.  The American people rewarded both.  I was wrong and I’m sorry.  In the interest of regaining some semblance of credibility, I’d like to suggest a new game plan for each party to enable them to retain or retake power in 2016.

Advice to the Democrats

1) Don’t Screw It Up – The stupid/learned/poor/super-rich/gay/abortion coalition is working.  Keep it together and try to make it larger by getting more people on food stamps, making college degrees (no matter how useless in some cases) cheaper, and funneling tax dollars to wealthy donors.

2) Keep the Free Stuff Coming – Americans love free stuff.  As long as you keep the gravy train running, you’ve got our vote no matter how awful the economy is or how much we hate the idea of higher taxes.  Those will never affect us anyway, right?  In addition to free birth control and health care, I’d also like to request BMWs.  Never mind.  I just realized BMW’s US presence is a non-union facility in Spartanburg, SC.  Let’s go Cadillac instead.  They still owe us money.

3) Blame the Rich – They’re already rich, so they don’t care.  Even better, many of the super-rich (Buffett, Gates, Bezos, etc.) are Democrats anyway.  Besides, whatever new taxes you impose will just flow down to the middle class (see Tax, Alternative Minimum).

Advice to the Republicans

1) Embrace Immigration – The United States of America is a country of immigrants and their descendents.  Republicans must embrace that truth and encourage the world’s best and brightest to join us.  As icing on the cake, unions hate immigration (more competition for jobs).  If the unions don’t like it, it must be a good idea.

2) Purchase More Votes – It must be done legally, of course, but votes can be bought.  The Democrats are currently the party of free stuff, but they used to be the party of slavery, too.  Republicans can win easily if they’re willing to go all in.  Imagine the rebuttal to the life of Julia (the Democrats will make everything better for women):  Republicans outline the life of Maria who is given $50,000 when born, goes to college for free (men must still pay), and gets to date Channing Tatum until she tires of his washboard abs.  Romney would have won with 97% of the popular vote.

3) Abandon So-Called Principles – Principles are for losers.  Who’s the most popular Democrat in the country?  I’ll give you a hint:  He cheated on his wife in the White House and lied under oath about it.  Republicans need to quit trying to tell the truth and do the right thing all the time.  Lie a little.  Cheat a little.  I’m not suggesting they should do it all the time, though, just when it’s really important.  If every moral issue is assumed to be a gray area it will be that much easier.

  1. You got more passion than the entire country- whoa horsey—-!!! Thanks for writing what all of us are still gasping for air to say…. all I can say to you is— be prepared— the dinner table has been set- drinks are being poured and dinner will be served to the American people around 7 pm— and it won’t taste like anything they have ever eaten before—- “WE” always reap what we sow—no other way!

  2. The republican party should never embrace illegal aliens or offer any kind of amnesty. Legal immigration we like, for people to come in and do a job and get paid a decent wage. There is already a guest worker program for low skilled workers as well as for some seasonal jobs like ski instructors. We should definitely do a better job explaining how illegal immigration hurts legal immigrants as it cuts in front of them. We should also do a better job explaining all the costs of illegal aliens, while explaining our alternative for orderly, legal immigration.

    • What do you think of this quote? “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (gifts) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
