A Conservative Take on Florida and U.S. Politics

Vice President Paul Ryan

I wrote about the field of Republican Presidential hopefuls on October 12, 2010 and listed five “future contenders” who became the VP short list save one.  I’m assuming that Beth Myers reads this blog and analyzed the frontrunners accordingly.  Anyway, the last one mentioned (alphabetical order by last name) was Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), who Governor Romney named as his running mate last weekend.  I would have been happy with any of them, but I think Gov. Jindal (R-LA) and Rep. Ryan were my favorites.

Make no mistake, Rep. Ryan is still a lightning rod (see my July 30, 2012 post), but Team Romney has decided it’s time to have some tough conversations.  The referendum on Obama’s policies makes for a close race.  If you add in a well-managed message of prosperity, I think Romney will beat all expectations.  I’d like to go on record today saying he wins at least 325 electoral votes and wins reelection in a landslide (450+).  Landslides come when policies are working, and I think America’s Comeback Team is prepared to take charge.  I can’t wait for November!

Note:  The missing “future contender” was Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).  I have great respect for Sen. Rubio and think he does a fantastic job representing Florida.  I also look forward to his remarks at the Republican National Convention.  However, I hope he has a long career in the Senate ahead of him before he runs for the Presidency.  Time will tell, but I Floridians will greatly benefit from his leadership and the rest of America is welcome along for the ride.
